Google Announces Brand Guidelines Requirement for Performance Max Campaigns

TL;DR oogle has announced new brand guidelines for Performance Max campaigns, effective January 20, 2025. New campaigns will require business name assets and standard and landscape logo assets. Asset management will transition from the asset group level to the campaign level. The current Version 18 of the Google Ads API does not support these guidelines, but future updates will enable campaign creation, settings management, and campaign-level asset controls.

Google Announces Brand Guidelines Requirement for Performance Max Campaigns

Google has unveiled new brand guidelines requirements for Performance Max campaigns, set to take effect on January 20, 2025. The update introduces mandatory asset requirements and changes to asset management structure.

New Campaign Requirements

Google will require all new Performance Max campaigns created through the user interface to include the following:

  • Business name assets
  • Standard logo assets
  • Landscape logo assets

The update introduces a significant shift in asset management, moving brand assets from asset group level to campaign level through the CampaignAsset resource.

API Support Status

The current Version 18 of the Google Ads API does not support these brand guidelines-enabled campaigns. Google has confirmed future API updates will include:

  • Brand guidelines campaign creation
  • Settings management capabilities
  • Campaign-level asset controls

Advertisers can monitor the brand guidelines status of their campaigns through the Campaign.brand_guidelines_enabled field in their campaign settings.
